My last post was about how big the 2011 year has started and it detailed all of the upcoming events for myself as well as the CFRR family. In 12 days, a team of 12 from CFRR will take on the Tough Mudder, a 10 mile cross-country style run with 18 obstacles at various points throughout the course. It should be a blast and an awesome test of fitness.
On February 13, 7 CFRR members will be challening themselves at The Fittest Games. This is a one day, 4- event cross fit competition that will test strength, endurance, stamina, recovery, and diet. This will be crazy! Definitely fun but expect some awesome WODS!
So, I am included in both of these events and am super excited to see all of our members go out and crush these challenges but I am battling a bit of a low point and am questioning whether or not i will actually be able to compete!!! Last week, during a WOD, I really tree up my ankle. The WOD was 10 rounds of: 3 hang cleans at 75% of BW, a 20 yard shuttle run, and 1-18ft rope climb. Challenging, but most definitely not out of my range of tasks at I am able to complete. Coming down from the rope climb on round 8, i bailed from the rope climb about 4 feet from the ground in order to save some grip strength and my right foot landed on the excess rope lying on the ground. I immediately went to the ground and new I was finished with the WOD for the day. I taped up my ankle as soon as i could and tried to walk it off. Nope. I did the same thing about 10 years ago playing basketball and had about a 6 week recovery until i was able to do much with that ankle.
10 years ago i was in nowhere near the shape I am today and my diet was terrible. I am being very optimistic about being ready to go in 12 days for the Tough Mudder and I feel even better about being able to compete in The Fittest Games. Time will tell but I am not one to just sit around and wait. As titled above, I am down right now, but definitely not out!!!!
down but not out definitely sums you up Landon. rest and take it easy. i know that's ironic coming from me however your health comes first and everything else will fall into place!! your love for crossfit and your job is so inspiring Landon!! Get better soon!!
