The types of CrossFitters.....

After competing and using CrossFit as my method of fitness for the last 5 years and being an affiliate owner for the last 4, I've noticed there are a few different types of CrossFitters......

First of all, until you've been in the game for a few months, I'm very certain that most people don't even know what category they fall into yet. They probably haven't even quite decided if CrossFit is even for them or not. Let's face, plenty of people are willing to shell out big bucks to try the hot, new fitness trend and we definitely get that group.

So fast forward to post elements and past your first 3 months. Now we can begin to classify what types of CrossFitters we have.

First off, there are the ex-athletes, gymnasts, and those people that just seem to be athletically gifted and are good at all sports they attempt. These people have a strong desire to compete against other people as well as seeing how far they are physically capable of pushing themselves. They use CrossFit to fill the void once occupied by a sport.

Then there are the people who like to workout in coached sessions and enjoy the types of workouts that are programmed at the local CrossFit Box. They more than likely are friends with people in the class and enjoy the social aspect just as much as they do the workout. They are definitely interested in the lifestyle and personal fitness is a priority to them.

The newbie CrossFitter is the one who is in the 3rd or 4th month of CrossFit and really wants to get better at CrossFit. Over the last 5 years, this athlete is who has built the empire that is the brand we know today as CrossFit. You see, lots of people grew up playing some type of sport as a kid. In high school, this number drops as kids mature and begin to have interests elsewhere. Then, the number takes a massive hit as high school athletes graduate and go to college where even the best of high school athletes are overlooked and never play their sport again. Then, what after college, the pros? Very few. VERY FEW.

So let's go back, CrossFit gives that feeling of sport to those who maybe have never experienced it past little league. And people love it. So the newbie CrossFitter is who makes up the bulk of the athletes who fill a box. It's such a blessing to see this particular group of people excel and progress with the sport of CrossFit. So far it's been a great ride watching this athlete move on and on and on. This is a great sport for athletes of all levels. It is a sport that cannot be mastered. It can only be practiced over and over and over again. And this is what brings out the best in people! Keep wodding....

The picture above is from a weekend where Team Legit entered a Strongman competion in Dallas. In the above picture we have an all-american collegiate athlete, a semi professional athlete, a junior college athlete, and a Big 12 collegiate athlete. When I met every single one of these individuals pictured above with me, to me, they were newbie CrossFitters. It wasn't until later that I found out alot of the stuff about them that I know now. So to me, at some point, every person that walks through the doors of CFRR is a newbie athlete. This is what keeps me coming to work every day. Awesome stuff.
