Favorites for CrossFit

Ok
, so a quick overview of the "equipment" choices I make when doing xfit wods:

I'll start with what is most important to me and that's the shoes I wear. There are 2 different style that i switch between. 90% of the time i wear Inov8's. These are extremely versatile yet supportive. I do heavy Olympic and power lifting movements in these as well as met-con wods. I switch between the 225's and the 195's. In fact, the only time I switch shoes is when there is a wod that is dominated by running. Then I go with the Mizuno Wave Creation. This running shoe is made for a foot like mine which is flat and has virtually no arch support.

Next, for me, shorts have to be very flexible. Shorts that stick to my legs or make me feel constricted during movements don't won't for me. Lulu lemon core shorts work the best. I've also worked out in Oakley board shorts and O'Neill Superfreaks. These 3 are super flexible during Wods with high rep squatting movements. They are also lightweight and don't feel like they weigh me down.

Next, I have fallen victim to the "compression cult" and am not sure that they truly help, however, in my mind they make all the difference in the world. I wear the full pant skins and the CEP socks. The idea is that they help blood flow to the targeted area and thus providing more oxygen to the muscles. Alot, of experts say they are more beneficial to wear after the workout during recovery. I also, wear skins compression sleeves during wods with alot of upper body flexion at the bicep i.e. pullups, pushups, and burpees.

As far as shirts go, most guys will lose their shirt shortly after the workout begins if not before and I am no different. Again, not feeling restricted during high bouts of energy expenditure is a plus. Most xfit affiliates are good about going with shirts that are flexible and conforming anyway which make for great comfort.

One last thing I'll mention is the jump rope I always keep with me. It's a great piece to carry when traveling for multiple reasons but mostly due to the fact that it's simple to pack and lightweight. I have been using the ultra speed cable rope for the last year and it's worked great. It spins fast which makes double unders almost effortless. I recently got an Rx Jump Rope and it's taking some getting used to but I'm giving it a shot. The downfall to both of these, which are both cable ropes, is that they can sometimes leave whip marks when you miss the double under.
