Leadership Breeds Success....Or is it the other way around??

A little over a year and a half ago, Adrien and I were the only ones who led any classes or trained any clients at CFRR. Today there are 6, soon to be 7, coaches leading others here. This is incredible to think about and yet I sit here and ask myself how this happens.....

When I began coaching and leading at CFRR, I had zero, experience leading group training. Yep. None at all. My first class at CFRR was my first group class ever. My leadership skills were hurting. The talent may have been there but I had no idea how to harness it because the skill and knowledge wasn't there. I began doing 1-on-1 sessions in 2005 so I had trained hundreds of people and knew how the body worked and completely understood biomechanics, but again, I had never led a mass training session.

I had competed in a few minor competitions and 1 regional CrossFit even in 2009. I had some success with those and had a decent amount of self-confidence. So going into that first class I was confident because I knew the CrossFit movements, I could perform all of the movements, and to some degree, I could teach them. I was super nervous to teach them to a group of people.

So to answer my title bearing question, what breeds leadership? What breeds success? For me, my confidence and success I had competing pushed me through the early stages of classes until I became more comfortable with leading a group of people. Others can lead a group of people without ever having competed before.

The coaching staff at CFRR is an amazing group of athletes and this brings confidence which bleeds over into the coaching of classes. Behind the scenes, the crew is doing any and everything they can to build the skill and knowledge it takes to become a 360 degree leader. Weekly meetings, skill sessions, 1-on-1's, business coaching, life coaching, continuing education certifications, etc. The list goes on. The tripod of confidence, personal success, and dedication is a great recipe for becoming a leader. Once that is accomplished, you can begin teaching it to others. That's true leadership.

"The Open" begins Feb. 22!!! Game Face.
