Never has a sport or fitness routine left me with such an emotional and physical feeling of accomplishment. Never has it been so rewarding in so many different aspects of life. Crossfit has been the difference make in Mylar over the last 3 years. It made me better at life. Functionally, emotionally, and socially.
Now it's been all but taken away from me.
Normal fitness routines don't deliver the high that crossfit gives me. They don't translate to everyday life situations. Worst of all, the feeling of going through a wod either by yourself, with your team, or even a warm up with your entire gym, and having the exact same feelings at the exact same moment, is gone.
So many people have told me that it's only a short time. It's only 6 months. This is true. But a question still remains....
When you've had that feeling of a wod high, when you can look over at your team and know the pain and agony they are going through during a 21-15-9, you make a connection with them. You feel what they feel and think what they think. It's almost as if you're watching yourself from the inside out. It's something truly special and something that cannot be replicated. When this is gone and physically you cannot make this happen anymore, your body understands but your mind is still searching for where this feeling, where this high is going to come from. It's a need that,to a crossfitter, comes only behind the need for air, food and water.
This will be hard to understand if you never had an injury. An injury that completely takes you out of the game. Even if you are an avid crosfitter, if you haven't been injured, you haven't had to sear h for the above mentioned high.
My body knows all too well what has happened and that it has been slowed down. My mind is asking, " What rhe F is going on?!?" It needs that high.
Where will it come from?
Today I sat and watched my workout partners complete a wod as they train for an upcoming team competition. I watched from a distance as i felt they needed not be exposed to my less than stellar mood. Training on a Sunday, the only day off during the week for some of these guys, I can't help but appreciate the heart and soul that is poured into their training. I can only be inspired and count the seconds until I can rejoin my team on the field.
Hang in there dude. I was out for 3 months after one surgery and have been out since October with a shoulder injury. You'll never lose the fire. It will just grow even more while you are recovering.
