Going back in.....
Going individual for the first time in 2 years can be a little nerve racking and stressful....
The last time I competed individually was at the Triple Threat Throwdown in 2012. Before this was regionals 2012. After being sidelined with injury until about August of 2013, the only competitions I have done have been on 2 or 4 person teams. This was again at the Triple Threat Throwdown and then the Fittest Games this past January.
Competing in the open was fun but I missed regionals and haven't had an opportunity to compete individually since.
Nervous? Yeah. Anxious? Yeah. Worried? Not even a little. Competing individually for me tests how far I can push myself and how much I can test my fitness. If there is something I can't do, it gives my training a new focus. This keeps me from getting bored and keeps me humble during the training process. Everyone enjoys training when it's with movements they excel at. To become well rounded, weakness must be addressed, even when you win or place well in a competition.
My training has taken a big push into overdrive in the last 5 weeks and will continue on this pace for the next 6 weeks. There has been more squatting, both in weight volume and rep volume, than I have ever done before. Definitely getting stronger but also feeling the affects of weeks of 200-300 squat reps. Knees and legs get tired but recovery is at an all time top priority. Post workout and mid day mobility has never been more important. More regular visits to the muscle tissue specialists and chiropractor as well. Sure this sounds like a lot but it is also a testament to how important this is to me.
The competition is the Gulf Coast Gauntlet in Galveston on August 23rd. It should be a blast and I couldn't be more excited to get back in the game!!!
