My 4 week Caveman Challenge

Over the last 4 weeks, the CFRR coaching staff courted themselves to food logging every last bite of food we ate. One reason being that we wanted to get in the mindset of food logging for the upcoming Operation Caveman Challenge which begins in in August. Believe it or not, this is the first time in my entire fitness career that I have actually logged food for more than a day or two. To be perfectly honest, it made me feel somewhat hypocritical and also made me realize how intense it can actually be.

We chose to log through and app called far secret. It's very user friendly which was key for me. It also allows to scan bar codes of your food isn't found in the database of foods in the system. Furthermore, it also allows entry of foods and macro/micro nutrients if the bar code doesn't scan. By allowing this, there is literally no food that can't be entered.

My main goal for the 4 weeks was to consistently eat the same amount of food every day. My recommended amount for my goals was 4200 cals each day.

During the 4 weeks, I found that it was not only tough to eat that much food but that if I didn't keep track of it meal by meal, it was super tough to remember what I had eaten throughout the day.

Weekends proved to be the toughest due to the fact that my schedule and routine was very different from my Monday-Fridays. I always ended up about 600 cals low on Saturdays and Sundays. Doesn't sound like much but a combined 1200 cals missed is a lot! For some, that's an entire days worth of food. Definitely made my Monday workouts a lot less energized.

Moral of the story is that now, going forward and leading challenges, I honestly feel like I'll be a more understanding coach and leader to those on my team. It was a humbling reality check and one that I needed in order to better myself as an athlete and coach.
